I've got a bunch of short posts of stuff wot I 'ave finished recently to post, that have been sat with the photos prepped and nothing else for a while.
First off, is the Wishmaker Shawl, pattern number 5 from the Shawl Society season 2. This is the second of the shawls from this set that I've finished, and while I do like the pattern, I ruined it with poor yarn choices.
It's not the most interesting of knits; all garter stitch with a few k2tog, yo eyelet rows, but it knits up quickly in DK yarn and makes a comfy sized, late autumn shawl, with endless possibilities thanks to colour choices.
In an attempt to save money, I went with, initially, 3 shades of Drops Karisma, which was cheap and easily available, in a mid grey, dark olive and a dark forest green. On the website, they looked great together, but when they actually arrived, the forest green was tonally VERY different from the other two, and was never going to look good. The best analogy I can come up with is that it was oil pastel, the other two were chalk pastel.
So I stash dove (or rather, stared at the random yarn that had been delivered fairly recently but not put away) and realised I had a skein of Burke and Hare from MyMamaKnits, which I had slated for fingerless gloves, but which would match perfectly. Annoyingly, I also realised I had enough different shades of blue in DK that I could have used stash for this. Oh well.
It wasn't a perfect match, but the hints of blue, red and yellow really bought out the pattern, and livened it up a bit.
Sadly, I came to the conclusion that I hated the olive green, and so I'm not likely to ever wear this. Once I've finished all the other patterns from the set, and photographed them together, I'll be getting rid of it (I suspect the Sprite's Fen will also be going; I love the yarn, but it's not very me)
It blocked nicely, and went from squishy and small to squishy and big, which is all you really want from a cosy shawl like this.
Annoyingly, I now have 2 skeins of bright "forest green" and most of a skein each of the grey and the olive green. There's still a bit of the Burke and Hare left as well, and I'm probably going to buy a new skein of it at some point because I do really like it.
And there you go! Another FAL finish!
